Psoriasis Excimer Laser Treatment

Psoriasis - Excimer Laser Treatment

Are you looking for something new and extremely effective for your psoriasis?

The excimer laser treatment system is the first FDA approved laser treatment for psoriasis. Light years ahead of other treatment methods, it is designed to provide effective relief from unsightly and sometimes painful psoriatic skin lesions. If you suffer from psoriasis, you'll find that the Clinical Skin Center's excimer laser treatment system offers you many benefits. Depending on the extent and severity of your psoriasis, these can include:

  • Effective clearing — often in fewer sessions than other treatments
  • Provides long-lasting relief—typically several months free of symptoms
  • Quick, easy treatment—sessions last only minutes
  • Relief without messy creams and daily skin care regimens

How does the Excimer Laser work?

The excimer laser creates a concentrated, but painless, beam of ultraviolet light that is delivered to psoriasis lesions through a hand-piece that rests directly on the skin. By precisely targeting only active lesions without exposing healthy skin, the laser safely delivers high-dose treatment for fast clearing and lasting remission.

Who should consider Excimer laser?

If you have mild to moderate psoriasis, and you're unhappy with your current method of treatment, you should consider treatment with the excimer laser system. You may have tried topical medications, such as coal tar or steroids, with disappointing results. You'll probably get relief faster with laser treatments at our office. The laser is ideal for treating mild to moderate psoriasis. Traditionally hard-to-treat areas such as hands, feet, knees, elbows, and scalp are easily treated, thanks to the laser's aiming beam and adjustable spot sized hand-piece. The targeted high-dose therapy can effectively treat stubborn plaques, even those that have not responded to other treatments. Excimer laser is mostly used for localized areas of psoriasis and not for treatment of widespread disease. Ask your doctor if laser treatment is right for you.

How quickly will you see results?

Of course, results will vary. However, individuals with mild to moderate cases of psoriasis can often obtain relief in just four to ten brief treatment sessions. You may see some results immediately. Treatments are usually performed 2 times per week on Mondays and Fridays.

Is there any pain?

Most patients feel no pain or discomfort during the short Excimer laser treatment sessions. A few report feeling a warm sensation, like a mild sunburn, at the site of treatment. No anesthesia is necessary. Not only is the Excimer laser treatment painless, it has few of the side effects associated with other psoriasis treatments, such as premature skin aging, skin thinning, resistance to medication or systemic side effects.

How long will clearing last?

Each case is unique, but psoriasis sufferers who have experienced Excimer laser treatment have found that relief can last for extended periods of time. Use of topical treatments may help maintain the improvement you experience after the laser treatments.

Are Psoriasis laser treatments covered by insurance?

Most national, state, and local insurance companies cover the laser treatment, but coverage levels can vary by plan. We will contact your insurance company prior to starting the treatments.

What Patients Say about Excimer Laser Treatments at our office:

"I've had psoriasis since I was a child. My doctor at the Clinical Skin Center told me he could help me achieve remission with the Excimer laser. I was skeptical, but now, for the first time in 10 years, I can wear short-sleeves and a bathing suit. I am experiencing remission for the first time in my life."
Marilyn L., Oakton, VA.

"The Excimer laser is the only treatment that has ever worked for my scalp. I've tried injections, creams, shampoos, oral medications, and none of it worked. But, since I started the laser treatments, my scalp has cleared more than 85%. There is no pain or side-effects."
Gary N., Reston, VA.

"There are very few Dermatologists in Northern Virginia who offer treatment with the Excimer Laser, I called them all! I am so grateful that Dr. Stashower helped me clear the psoriasis on my hands. It was way worth it and I feel much better."
Laura B., Falls Church, VA.
